![]() Has anyone configured one this way yet and can provide me with some instructions? I have tried searching for instructions, to do exactly what I need, but have found conflicting information (extending wifi, bridging, etc.) and just haven't gotten it to work yet. This is not my area of expertise but I can usually get things working with the help of google and support sites. I moved the netgear out there for a quick test and it worked perfectly so I know my line/connection is good. I need it extending the existing mesh network so it can still seamlessly jump between beacons, routers, etc. I was able to do this with a netgear wifi router, to extend the signal in my garage, but I can't seem to get the extreme to setup properly. I ran CAT6 out into my shop, since my wifi won't pass through the metal walls, at all, and am trying to configure the Extreme so I can hardwire it to my EERO network to extend the wireless mesh network inside my building. You should also have either the "AirPort Admin Utility" and/or the "AirPort Utility" (note the missing word "Admin") in your \Applications\Utilities folder.I'm trying to use my Airport Extreme to extend my EERO wireless network into my metal shop via ethernet. Do you currently have and are using an AirPort base station for your Internet access? This is basically telling you that the AirPort Setup Assistant required that the AirPort card be enabled in order to use it to setup an AirPort base station. Today, the Air Port Extreme card arrived, and being inexperienced with computers as I am, I assumed there would be a place on the Mac Book itself to plug it in.Īll of the new MacBooks come with an AirPort Extreme card built-in so, unfortunately, ordering the card was unnecessary. I have had my Mac Book at home for 3 more days than the Air Port Extreme card, as it arrived via a different shipping company, and have thus far been loving the seamlesness of my internet connectivity. I went through the install and reset process, and it seems as if I'm being told I haven't done enough installation or set up to make use of the Air Port Extreme internet connection.Ĭan someone give some help as to how to circumvent this problem? Is there a physical use for the Air Port Extreme card I'm ignorantly missing? Somewhere to plug it in? Have I ordered it under a false assumption I could use it for my Mac Book? Or is it a matter of tweaking my network preferences? ![]() Please make sure it is installed properly and try the AirPort Setup Assistant again." "There was an error communicating with your AirPort card. Click OK if you would like to change these settings, or Skip if you would like to configure AirPort Base Stations using ethernet."įurthermore, when I click OK, the following comes up: "In order to use the AirPort Setup Assistant your AirPort card must be enabled and AirPort needs to be turned on and set to use DHCP. However, when I attempt to use the set up client, I encounter the following: So, my first question is:ĭo I have a physical use for this Air Port Extreme card with my Mac Book, or perhaps have I ordered it under the false assumption that I'd be able to use it with my Mac Book?įurthermore, I went on to install the Air Port Extreme software packaged with the card on to the computer, and now have Air Port (Extreme) 4.2 on my laptop. However, discovering the fact that I was so obviously wrong, I did some exploration in the user manual and found out that if one ordered the card with their lap top, it was apparently installed. Today, the Air Port Extreme card arrived, and being inexperienced with computers as I am, I assumed there would be a place on the Mac Book itself to plug it in. I'm a new Mac Book user who purchased an Air Port Extreme card side-by-side with my Mac Book in hopes that I would be able to use the card to extend my wireless range for the purposes of use at University.
